Habitat:
Tropical and subtropical waters.
Remarks:
Luvarids are known to have a huge egg production, with an estimated of 47.5 million eggs for one adult species, 1.7 m in length. These fish are nonschooling. Blunt snout; dorsal fin positioned in front for juveniles; fin has two spines with 20-22 soft rays except for anal fin has no spines; total of 22 vertebrae with last two fused.

Maximum length can reach 1.8 m.

Genera and species: One genus, Avitoluvarus and one species, Luvarus imperialis.
