About This Family
	Distribution:
Freshwater; North America (southern Canada to Guatemala).
Habitat:
Streams, ponds, ditches, wells.
Remarks:
The Ictalurids originate from southern Canada to Guatemala and include fish commonly known as bullheads, madtoms, blue catfish, and channel catfish. They have four pairs of barbels (also commonly known as “whiskers” as applied to catfish). Dorsal and pectoral fins are spinuous. Their skin is naked and dorsal fin has six soft rays. Four eyeless (or blind) catfish species are recognized. They can reach a maximum length of about 1.6 m. 
Seven genera with 46 species.
