About this Tag

Produces and emits bioluminescent light, whether continually or intermittently, with special organs called photophores. It is produced by different species for different reasons, including camouflage for prey attraction or predator deterrence, intraspecific communication, mate attraction, navigation, etc. Bioluminescence is a naturally occurring form of chemiluminescence where energy is released by a chemical reaction in the form of light emission.
