About this Tag

The bathyl zone of the continental slope includes bottom depths extending between 1000-4000 m. This zone is pitch black, apart from the occasional bioluminescent organism. The average temperature hovers at about 4 °C (39 °F). There are no living plants, and most animals survive by consuming the snow of detritus falling from the zones above or by preying upon others.
